Topic (IRC Command)
This is the IRC command. For the ChanServ command of the same name, see Topic (ChanServ command)
The topic command allows you to change the topic of a channel. This command accepts 1 optional argument. The argument is either the topic you wish to set, or (rarely) a channel you wish to see a topic for. If you issue this command without arguments, then the current topic will be displayed for you in the channel on most clients. Topics can accept control codes. Please note the terms of service for what is and is not allowed in a channel's topic. To change the topic of a channel, you can issue the following command:
/topic This is a new channel topic
To see the topic for #channel while you are not on #channel, you can issue this command:
Note that the above command will not work if you are banned from #channel.
