Prefix

From Ravenchat Wiki

This is a list of all the prefixes that you can see in front of a nick in IRC. Prefixes determine the users role in a specific channel. And the specific roles come with a different amount of power in a specific #channel. Note that some IRC clients use custom prefixes instead. If you do not understand this page because your client is not using prefixes then consult your client's documentation for what the prefixes look like for you.

User prefix Description
~ Owner The owner is usually the user that has the most power in any specific #channel. This user created the #channel and registered it with ChanServ. Only an IRC operator or the user can remove the user from being the owner of the specific #channel. The owner can kick and/or ban other users from his/her #channel, change the modes and topic on the specific #channel. A channel can have multiple owners, but only one founder.
& SuperOp (SOP) The SuperOp has the same powers in a specific #channel as a owner has, except that he/she/it can not kick or ban the owner or make himself/herself the owner of the #channel. They cannot kick out other SuperOps either.
@ AutoOp (AOP) The AutoOp has the same powers in a specific #channel as a SOP has, except that he/she/it can not use those powers on the Owner or the SOP's.
% HalfOp (HOP) The HalfOp can only kick, ban and/or give voice(+v) to users that are VOP or lower in rank only.
+ VoiceOp (VOP) The VoiceOp can only give himself/herself voice(+v) and not to anyone else. He/she can not do anything else the other operators can.
! Network Staff (+Y) This prefix is given to network staff who issue an ojoin command to enter the channel. This will usually only happen if assistance was explicitly requested from the channel founder or operators to assist with problems or if network staff are investigating a suspected terms of service violation.
